FONO

This is the latest email that I have from Pati who is facilitating the fono.  I said in our hui that I would check with her if support workers are encouraged to attend, or not.  Here is her response:

"Malo Merv
Thanks for your email, yes the fono is for the disabled people but those disabled who do need help and carers to assist them are welcome but it is the voice of the disabled people we want to hear.
I'll be in Auckland today till Monday night but please feel free to call on my landline early next week to discuss further if you wish?
Manuia

REREHEKE MAHI HAU

This conference has been postponed until next year.  It looks likely that Toitoi Manawa will be invited to present

BLESSING

Hemi blessed the Hutt office for us on the 30th November and it went really well.

DEC 15?

Korero around the most appropriate date? . . . .  Naturally the group asked if there was a 'budget'? :P :D

Paparina - could you check your diary please and see if Monday the 13th would suit you; as it seems the more viable date for the roopu.  We thought the Rockz Bar in Porirua sometime in the afternoon would be good?

GENERAL KORERO

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE SINCE OUT LAST HUI?

Merv emailed content for inclusion in the Client Handbook that is about to be revived.  Also we should see a section in the 'Connector' which is the newsletter.

The website is being updated continually so please have a look every now and then when you can

SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR

Please see Calendar page on the Toitoi Manawa website and I've invited everyone to view my calendar where I'll put events up.

Promotion in the community is about letting networks in the rohe know who we are.  A chance to have t-shirts printed with 'Te Hapori Awhina Tangata' on them?

Kathy Puati was seen as a vital contact.

EMPLOYMENT PANEL

Violet to be put forward as our representative for interviews/recruitment.

KORERO

What our thoughts and feeling were towards Toitoi Manawa

AGENDA/MATTERS ARISING

Our Vision and Purpose

VISION
  • Bicultural organisation
  • Bicultural partnership with Board
  • Embracing, enabling
PURPOSE
  • Build relationships (client, whanau, hapu, iwi and other groups/agencies.  Plus like-minded others)
  • Build capacity and resources
  • Aligned to CC core values (which are honour people and their stories; build capacity - in people, communities, in the team; check it is right and celebrate - diversity, challenge and success)
*  Below are the ideas Merv had that he emailed to Paparina seeing as he was absent:

PURPOSE:
  1. Advisory
  2. Educative (especially around the orientation and evaluation phases)
  3. Tautoko/Awhi
  4. Kaitiaki
  5. Collaborative with tauiwi
  6. Enhance and maintain the whakatika/whakapono of our practice; keeping the mauri/wairua alive and evident
 TERMS OF REFERENCE/STRUCTURE:
  1. I do believe in a quorum and I believe in the protection of entry to TM
  2. I would say that at least 80% of existing members need to approve any new member.  It might even pay to say that the Chair has veto power, as a Service Manager has a high-level oversight and might have heard wind in the organisation re: the conduct of that nominee
  3. Terms of reference.  Personally I would leave it up to TM's 'worldview' where we get to determine if te/nga take are significant for us to take on board
  4. The Trust Deed should be able to inform us about how the Board goes about their process of electing board members
Limited membership to 10 members only.  At the moment there are 7 of us.
What is the process to recruit other members?  Should you have to be Maori/Pacific Islander to be a part of Toitoi Manawa?
Initially Maori/Pacific Island members while at this embryonic stage - later on open up . . . .
Potential members Tanya and Merv?
Toitoi Manawa meetings are open to the Board/ED & GM at all times

STRUCTURE OF MEETINGS
  • Begin with Karakia/Waiata
  • End with mihimihi
  • Agenda:  Apologies, minutes, general business etc

12 month cycle for members discussed.  Expectation of 12 month commitment to Toitoi Manawa
What is the process to recruit and induct new members?

DISABLED PERSONS ASSEMBLY (DPA)

Third Edition, August 2010

TREATY PARTNERSHIP (Pg 9)
  • Disabled Maori and whanau have the same aspirations and right to live and fully participate in the communities we choose as do non-Maori, including communities that are part of our Maori whanau, hapu and iwi
  • For those of us who are disabled and Maori, participating in our communities is about having the ability to access marae and te reo Maori in formats that are accessible
  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi provides the foundation for the understanding and implementation of partnership between peoples.  Partnership is essential between Maori and non-Maori people.  Partnership is also essential between us disabled Maori, our whanau and the communities in which we live in order for these communities to be fully accessible

HUI - 10AM TO 1PM - WEDNESDAY 27TH OCTOBER - WHITIREIA

AGENDA:

Karakia/Waiata

Welcome:  John Taylor/Ani Parata
  1. Vision and Purpose of Toitoi Manawa
  2. Terms of Reference:  How we will structure our group

SKYPE YOUR REO

How about looking up this awesome initiative by Awa Whenua.  As Merv :D, I'd like to say that I was taught basic Te Reo by Kelly (one of the partners); she's got an awesome way of encouraging you without making you feel whakama.

VISION STATEMENT

WORK IN PROGRESS

Another workshop is probably needed to encapsulate the whole ahuatanga behind Toitoi Manawa

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS WEBSITE

Tania and Adrian/Adrien? need to be contacted to see if we can have a dedicated tab or link to Toitoi Manawa on the http://www.ccslt.org.nz/cms/ website

NETWORKING STRATEGY

Community Directories of Councils and the 'Te Kahui Mangai' link

AUKATI KAIPAIPA

Paula contacted the Quit Group's area manager, then went on to contact the Quit Line directly

We can all model aspects of wellness

CULTURAL SUPERVISION

There is an opportunity to access this (please see alteration made to the Hunga Haua Maori. policy).

The Board and John are very supportive of this.

Paula is receiving cultural supervision via Mat at Orongomai Marae.

Merv earlier emailed a supervisors register.  Merv is finishing his graduate/post-graduate supervision course this year and can advise further re: supervision.

TREATY OF WAITANGI

Feedback from Wendy:  Te Reo, noho and cultural mentoring were predominant themes

Local presenters (Hemi is a possibility) should facilitate alongside Ruth

Emotional safety was talked about by Kimi.  Paula mentioned that at the time "her wairua wouldn't have taken it".  The treaty can bring up mamae and riri.

Ruth, although acknowledged for her ability, is nevertheless Pakeha and not Maori.
